Lions, Hutchinson reach 4-year extension worth $180M
The Detroit Lions and star pass-rusher Aidan Hutchinson have agreed to a four-year, $180-million extension that contains $141 million in total guarantees, his agent Mike McCartney told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The guaranteed money is the most ever for a non-quarterback, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Hutchinson's new deal is worth $45 million per season, which only trails Micah Parsons ($46.5 million per year) for the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, according to Over The Cap.
Hutchinson's extension is $4 million more annually than T.J. Watt's lucrative contract signed over the offseason and $5 million per year more than Myles Garrett's extension.
The second overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Hutchinson has quickly blossomed into one of the league's most premier edge rushers, as he's recorded 34.5 sacks through 46 career games.
Hutchinson is in the midst of a tremendous comeback season after his 2024 campaign was cut short due to a broken fibula and tibia. He's put up six sacks and a league-leading four forced fumbles through seven games.
His best season came in 2023, when he was named to the Pro Bowl after an 11.5-sack campaign.
Detroit is off to a 5-2 start with a defense that ranks 11th in points allowed and eighth in yardage allowed.
