<p>The NFL fined the Atlanta Falcons $250,000 and defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich $100,00 for "failing to prevent the disclosure of confidential information" after Ulbrich's son prank called quarterback prospect <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/210099" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/210099">Shedeur Sanders</a> during the NFL draft, the league <a href="https://x.com/TomPelissero/status/1917592755963822145">announced</a> Wednesday.</p><p>Jax Ulbrich, the 21-year-old son of the Falcons' defensive coordinator, obtained Sanders' confidential phone number from an iPad at his parents' house and used it to make a prank call. Jeff Ulbrich was unaware of his son's actions until afterward.</p><p>Sanders, whose slide in the draft was the biggest storyline throughout the weekend, received a call from an unidentified friend of Jax posing as New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis. The caller falsely claimed the Saints were about to draft the signal-caller with the next pick. Sanders responded that he'd been "waiting" for the call, only to have the prankster reply, "You're going to have to wait a little bit longer, man," before hanging up.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Colorado product later revealed that only NFL teams had access to the phone number used in the prank call.</p><p>"We appreciate the NFL's swift and thorough review of last week's data exposure and the event that transpired due to it," the Falcons said in a statement.</p><p>"We were proactive in addressing the situation internally and cooperated fully with the league throughout the process and accept the discipline levied to coach Jeff Ulbrich and the organization. We are confident in our security policies and practices and will continue to emphasize adherence to them with our staff, whether on or off premises. Additionally, the Ulbrich family is working with the organization to participate in community service initiatives in relation to last week's matter."</p><p>Jeff publicly apologized Wednesday to Sanders and his family, as well as the Falcons organization. He said he isn't appealing the fine.</p><p>"My actions of not protecting confidential data were inexcusable," Ulbrich told reporters, including <a href="https://x.com/japatrick200/status/1917639363229344192">Joe Patrick of 92.9 The Game</a>. "My son's actions were absolutely inexcusable. And for that, we are both deeply sorry."</p><p>Jax <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3275762" href="https://thescore.com/news/3275762">apologized</a> after the incident, writing on his Instagram story, "On Friday night, I made a tremendous mistake. Shedeur, what I did was completely inexcusable, embarrassing, and shameful."</p><p>The Falcons said Sunday that they "do not condone this behavior" and have contacted Sanders and his family to apologize.</p><p>The Cleveland Browns ultimately selected Sanders in the fifth round with the 144th overall pick. Sanders called the prank a "childish act," but added that "everybody does childish things here and there." However, his new head coach, Kevin Stefanski, was less forgiving, saying the incident was "sad" and that "people are morons."</p><p>Sanders wasn't the only prospect to receive a prank call during the draft. <p>San Francisco 49ers running back <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/85079" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/85079">Christian McCaffrey</a> enters the team's offseason program with "zero restrictions," he told reporters Tuesday, including <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/44804640/christian-mccaffrey-zero-restrictions-injury-marred-2024">ESPN's Nick Wagoner</a>.</p><p>McCaffrey added that he's "feeling great."</p><p>McCaffrey's 2024 season was complicated by injury issues. He suited up for only four games after battling bilateral Achilles tendinitis delayed the start to his year, while a PCL knee injury ended his campaign prematurely.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The three-time Pro Bowler noted that it was his goal to not miss any of the team's offseason program. The 49ers opened their voluntary offseason program Tuesday.</p><p>San Francisco's offense has been considerably more potent with a healthy McCaffrey in the lineup. However, any team that trades for him would only be responsible for $21.1 million as the Dolphins already paid him a $4-million roster bonus. Ramsey is under contract through 2028 after signing a three-year extension worth $72.1 million in 2024.</p><p>The 30-year-old cornerback has recorded 24 interceptions over his career.</p>

However, the performances on track – especially in Bahrain – have told a different story.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Piastri was rarely discussed - or seen - as he controlled the pace from lights out to the checkered flag. After a phenomenal pole lap, the Australian led 54 of 57 laps and got home over 15 seconds ahead of the next closest driver.</p><p>Unlike Piastri, Norris struggled all weekend. He qualified sixth – behind an Alpine – and was then handed a time penalty after lining up ahead of his grid box. He worked his way back to a third-place finish, but it wasn't easy: Norris struggled behind Charles Leclerc and then failed to pass George Russell in the closing laps.</p><p>The main difference between Piastri and Norris thus far is clear: composure. The verdict: so far, so good.</p><p>Leclerc qualified third, which later became his first front-row start of 2025 due to Russell's grid penalty. From there, Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, who began ninth, brought Ferrari its best result of the year - both drivers finished in the top five.</p><p>Unlike the rest of the top 10, Ferrari opted for a medium tire start and appeared to be heading for a better result before a safety car in the middle stage of the race. In the end, Leclerc placed fourth, though he frustrated and defended the faster Norris for as long as he could for the final podium spot.</p><p>Ferrari was still miles off Piastri's pace, but crucially, Leclerc was only a couple of hundredths of a second off the leading Mercedes in terms of average race pace and quite ahead of Red Bull, according to <a href="https://x.com/FDataAnalysis/status/1911470789117051111">Formula Data Analysis</a>.</p><p>While it's atypical to feel optimistic about Ferrari, there should be a lot of hope that this SF-25 package has a lot more to give.</p><p><strong>Red Bull disasterclass</strong></p><figure class="article-segment--image"><img src="https://assets-cms.thescore.com/uploads/image/file/780405/cropped_GettyImages-2210081882.jpg?ts=1744576731" srcset="https://assets-cms.thescore.com/uploads/image/file/780405/w220xh124_GettyImages-2210081882.jpg?ts=1744576731 220w, https://assets-cms.thescore.com/uploads/image/file/780405/w320xh180_GettyImages-2210081882.jpg?ts=1744576731 320w, https://assets-cms.thescore.com/uploads/image/file/780405/w640xh360_GettyImages-2210081882.jpg?ts=1744576731 640w, https://assets-cms.thescore.com/uploads/image/file/780405/w768xh432_GettyImages-2210081882.jpg?ts=1744576731 768w, https://assets-cms.thescore.com/uploads/image/file/780405/w1080xh607_GettyImages-2210081882.jpg?ts=1744576731 1080w"><figcaption class="article-segment--image-caption"> <span class="article-segment--image-attribution">Kym Illman / Getty Images Sport / Getty</span></figcaption></figure><p>In the words of Max Verstappen, Red Bull's only problems this weekend were the race start, pace, car balance, braking, tire degradation, pit stop errors and the poor strategy that left him stuck in traffic.</p><p>In short, it was a disastrous weekend for Red Bull, and it was only saved by another damage limitation race by Verstappen and Yuki Tsunoda scoring his first points with the team.</p><p>The reigning world champion, who at one point was running in last, scraped a sixth-place finish. His deficit in the drivers' championship is still only eight points, but it adds more evidence that he's falling further back than climbing up.</p><p>That may be hard to fathom considering Verstappen was atop the podium just last week, but the team's recipe for success has become glaringly obvious. First, the track must be low degradation and emphasize front-tire performance. Next, there must be an outside element, such as rain like Brazil last year or next to impossible overtaking like Japan last Sunday. And the final ingredient: Verstappen must be firing on all cylinders. Unless those all come together, results like those at Bahrain are more likely than not.</p><p>Reports <a href="https://x.com/thomasmaheronf1/status/1911471553994539379">surfaced</a> that suggested Red Bull held a post-race meeting that included team principal Christian Horner, advisor Helmut Marko, and others. If they wanted to discuss a crisis, they were late to react. In a little over a year, Red Bull's dominant advantage has more than been erased. There were DRS issues and a brake-by-wire problem that had the Mercedes driver battling a pedal that was going all the way to the floor in the final laps. Still, he held off a faster Norris to collect his third podium of 2025. The track threw everything it had to rattle Russell, including a grid penalty after qualifying, but the British driver proved unflappable.</p><h3>They said what? 🗣️</h3><p><strong>Zak Brown on Piastri and Norris competing for for drivers' championship: </strong>"They race hard. I'm sure we're going to have some excitement over the year, but they race very cleanly, and they're free to race as we've discussed. I think we've yet to see that epic battle between them - I think that's just a matter of time - but they're pulling the whole team forward, and it's exciting."</p><p><strong>Lando Norris on feeling like he's struggling:</strong> "Honestly, I'm surprised I'm achieving anything at the minute with how I feel in the car. I'm not comfortable, I'm not happy, I'm not feeling good, so getting the results that I'm getting, I'm quite surprised by it. Something's not clicking. I don't have an answer."</p><p><strong>George Russell on the brake-by-wire issue at the end of the race: </strong>"When I was hitting the brakes, the pedal was going all the way to the floor. ... For 10 laps in a row, I didn't know going into every corner if my brake would be solid or if it would be going to the floor. It really compromised the race, but at the end of the day, coming home in P2 is mega."</p><p><strong>Lewis Hamilton on growing pains with Ferrari:</strong> "I've been driving a certain a way with the same team for such a long time, and I've moved to a new car and it requires such different driving style and settings. ... So I'm adjusting to that, and I think I am slowly getting it into my head."</p><h3>What's next?</h3><p>The Saudi Arabian GP goes Sunday, April 20 at 1 p.m. ET. </p><p>Red Bull has claimed three of the four races at the Jeddah Circuit - Verstappen won in 2022 and 2024, and Sergio Perez won in 2023. <p>Eight-time Pro Bowl cornerback <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/20421" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/20421">Patrick Peterson</a> will be retiring with the Arizona Cardinals on Monday, a source told <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1910817730137141625">ESPN's Adam Schefter</a>.</p><p>Peterson played the first 10 seasons of his career with the Cardinals, who drafted him fifth overall in the 2011 NFL Draft.</p><p>All eight of the 34-year-old's Pro Bowls occurred during the first eight seasons of his career, and he was named a First-Team All-Pro on three occasions.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>During his 10-year stay with Arizona, Peterson recorded 28 interceptions, two forced fumbles, and 12 fumble recoveries.</p><p>The cornerback also shined as a punt returner during his rookie season as he led the NFL in return yardage (699) and touchdowns (four).</p><p>Peterson enjoyed a two-year tenure with the Minnesota Vikings from 2021-22 and a one-season stop with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2023.</p><p>Peterson ends his NFL journey with 36 interceptions and two pick-6s.</p>

<p>The New York Jets and wide receiver <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/88785" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/88785">Allen Lazard</a> agreed to a restructured contract that includes an $8.5-million pay cut in 2025, a source told <a href="https://overthecap.com/jets-renegotiate-contract-with-wr-allen-lazard">Jason Fitzgerald of Over The Cap</a>.</p><p>Lazard, 29, will have $1.75 million of his salary for the upcoming season guaranteed, Fitzgerald adds. He's also now reportedly scheduled to become a free agent a year earlier in 2026.</p><p>The reworked deal will lower Lazard's 2025 salary-cap figure from $13.2 million to $4.6 million, according to Fitzgerald. The Jets will also reportedly take just under a $4.4-million dead-cap hit in 2026 when his deal becomes void.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Lazard joined New York on a four-year, $44-million deal during free agency in 2023. His production hasn't matched the price tag, as he has posted a combined 841 yards and seven touchdowns across his two seasons, with 530 yards and six scores coming in 2024.</p>
