Baylor legend Robert Griffin III tossed his hat into the ring for the head coaching vacancy at his alma mater after the Bears fired Dave Aranda on Sunday.
"Yes," Griffin said on the "The Dan Patrick Show" when asked if he's interested in the job. "100%. If Baylor wants to get back to winning and have a university that isn't just respectable on the football field, but (one) the fans can be proud of, they need people who know what it looks like to win at Baylor."
Griffin, who won a Heisman Trophy trophy while playing at Baylor, suggested a few other candidates for the school to consider.
"I would also advocate for Spencer Danielson, the head coach of Boise State," Griffin said. "I think he is a top-notch guy, top-notch coach and knows how to win. I also think Jeff Traylor at UTSA is a great option. A dark horse would be Lincoln Riley from USC. I know he's got his experiences at Oklahoma and obviously what's going at USC right now, but when you talk about people who know how to recruit and know how to score points in a big way, which is what Baylor fans are used to when we're winning."
Griffin suggested that financial considerations for both schools would affect whether Riley made his way to the Bears.
"I think it would be more of a situation where if Lincoln Riley was interested in leaving, that USC would be OK working that out as long as some of their funds can go back to them," he added.
Baylor went 40-40 under Aranda and is off to a 4-3 start this season.
"I'm just tired of seeing Baylor be the step stone or the stepchild to all these other teams. We should be back on top," Griffin said.
