Free-agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers will likely re-sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Although no deal is in place, Rodgers is reportedly expected to visit the Steelers this weekend. Pittsburgh placed a UFA tender on Rodgers last week, but it's considered a placeholder for a new contract, according to Rapoport. The tender, along with other provisions, gives the veteran a 10% salary increase from last season.

Rodgers would enter his 22nd NFL season if he rejoins the Steelers. He spent the 2025 campaign with the team, going 10-6 in 16 starts after a two-year run with the New York Jets.

The 42-year-old led the Steelers to the wild-card round of the playoffs, but they were eliminated by the Houston Texans. Rodgers completed just 17 of 33 passes for 146 yards and two turnovers in the 30-6 defeat. Out of 33 starting quarterbacks last year, Rodgers ranked 14th in passer rating and 16th in completion percentage, according to TruMedia.

Rodgers is now set up for a reunion with his former head coach, Mike McCarthy. They spent 13 years together in Green Bay from 2006-18 and won Super Bowl XLV together in the 2010 season. Rodgers also claimed two of his four MVP awards during McCarthy's tenure with the Packers.

"I don't see why you wouldn't," McCarthy said at his introductory press conference in January when asked if he wanted Rodgers to return to the Steelers. The coach added, "I was able to sit back and watch the games. I watched most of the Pittsburgh games on TV, and I thought he was a great asset for the team."

The Steelers' quarterback room currently includes Mason Rudolph, 2025 sixth-round pick Will Howard, and 2026 third-round pick Drew Allar. Howard did not play last season and spent the majority of the campaign on injured reserve with a hand injury. Allar, a three-year starter at Penn State, was the fourth quarterback selected in April's draft.

Pittsburgh is 0-7 in its last seven playoff games dating back to the 2017 season. Longtime head coach Mike Tomlin stepped down in mid-January after a 19-year run at the helm.

Rodgers became the first Steelers quarterback to throw for 3,000-plus yards in a season since Ben Roethlisberger in 2021. Rodgers' 66,274 passing yards rank fifth on the NFL's all-time list behind Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Tom Brady.
