Boeheim rips Bryant's Grasso after loss: 'He gave me a sarcastic apology'

Longtime Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim chided his Bryant counterpart Jared Grasso after the Bulldogs scored a last-second game-winner to escape with a one-point victory Saturday.

Boeheim said he was upset that some Bryant players didn't join the handshake line after the fiery contest and criticized Grasso's conduct.

"They ran off the court, two or three of them," Boeheim said postgame. "I don't know why you would do that. We lost, we shook hands. That's what you do - win or lose. That's what you do.

"(Grasso) gave me a sarcastic apology, which fits him. It really wasn't an apology, that's why I didn't really accept it.

Cameras captured the opposing bench bosses in discussion after the game when tempers suddenly appeared to flare. As Grasso walked away, he seemed to facetiously wave goodbye to Boeheim.

Sparks flew in the first half when Bryant guard Doug Edert and Syracuse freshman Judah Mintz exchanged slaps to the head during a break in play. Benches subsequently cleared, and both players were among multiple personnel ejected.

The loss dropped Boeheim's side to 3-3 on the season. It's Syracuse's second home loss following a 12-point defeat to Colgate on Nov. 15.
