LSU signed guard RJ Luis Jr. out of the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3's Joe Tipton.

Luis, the 2025 Big East Player of the Year at St. John's, went undrafted last year. He signed a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz and was traded to the Celtics a couple of months later in a deal that sent Georges Niang to Boston.

The 23-year-old suited up in three preseason games for the Celtics but was waived and ultimately signed a contract with the team's G-League affiliate. He didn't appear in any games for the Maine Celtics and sat out the whole season rehabbing a knee injury.

Despite signing with LSU, Luis isn't currently eligible to play basketball at the college level, according to On3's Pete Nakos. Luis and LSU will likely file a lawsuit in an attempt to get a waiver allowing the guard to play.

LSU is heading into the first season of head coach Will Wade's second stint with the program. The 43-year-old was fired in 2022 following investigations into alleged recruiting violations. He spent the 2025-26 season at NC State after two seasons as McNeese State's head coach.

Luis averaged 18.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest in 35 games for the Red Storm during the 2024-25 campaign.
