The New York Mets plan to activate star outfielder Juan Soto from the 10-day injured list before Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins, manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed Tuesday, according to SNY.

However, Mendoza added that Soto will need days off and starts as the designated hitter as he continues to recover from a calf strain, per Deesha Thosar of Fox Sports.

New York placed the 27-year-old on the IL on April 6. He was initially expected to miss two-to-three weeks.

The Mets are in the midst of an 11-game losing streak, their longest since 2004. The club went 3-11 with Soto sidelined.

The four-time All Star was off to a hot start, batting .355 with one home run, five RBIs, and a .928 OPS through eight games.

Expectations were high for the Mets after an offseason overhaul that brought in Bo Bichette, Marcus Semien, Jorge Polanco, Luis Robert Jr., Devin Williams, and Freddy Peralta.
