The Texas Rangers placed right-hander Nathan Eovaldi on the 15-day injured list with right posterior elbow inflammation, the team announced Monday.
Eovaldi's IL stint is retroactive to Aug. 9.
The 36-year-old owns a 10-9 record with a 4.21 ERA and 9.3 K/9 while anchoring the top of the Rangers' rotation with Jacob deGrom. Eovaldi pitched well in his last start, allowing four hits and one earned run in 5 1/3 innings against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday.
Right-hander Ben Peoples was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock to take Eovaldi's spot on the active roster. The 25-year-old right-hander appeared in 12 games for the Rangers earlier this season, authoring a 2.19 ERA in 12 1/3 innings.
The Rangers enter Monday in possession of the third wild-card spot in the American League.
