The Toronto Maple Leafs announced the signing of William Nylander to an entry-level contract Monday.
The 18-year-old was drafted eighth overall by the club in the 2014 NHL Draft.
“Not only does William Nylander bring a high level of speed and skill to his game but he has a very strong character on and off the ice,” said general manager Dave Nonis. “We believe he has a very bright future and are happy to have him signed to his first NHL contract.”
Nylander - the son of former NHL center Michael - registered one goal, six assists and six penalty minutes in 22 games with MODO of the Swedish Hockey League in 2013-14. He's expected to attend training camp and has an outside shot at suiting up for the big club this season.
