Oilers re-sign Kapanen to 1-year, $1.3M contract
The Edmonton Oilers re-signed forward Kasperi Kapanen to a one-year contract worth $1.3 million, the team announced Monday.
Kapanen tallied five goals and 13 points in 57 games with the Oilers, and added three goals and six points in 12 playoff contests. He scored the overtime winning goal in Game 5 of the second round to eliminate the Vegas Golden Knights.
The 28-year-old was set to become an unrestricted free agent Tuesday. Kapanen is coming off a one-year pact signed with the St. Louis Blues worth $1 million.
Edmonton claimed Kapanen off waivers from the Blues in November.
Kapanen has scored six goals each of the past two seasons. He notched a career-high 20 goals and 44 points in 2018-19 with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Finn has accumulated 90 goals and 222 points in 527 games over parts of 10 seasons with the Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, Blues, and Oilers
