The Denver Broncos signed general manager George Paton to a new five-year contract through the 2030 season, the team announced Friday.

"We are pleased to announce a new five-year contract for George Paton that reflects our confidence in his leadership, vision, and the overall direction of our team," team owner and CEO Greg Penner said in a statement. "As our general manager, George has demonstrated a strong commitment toward building a winning roster while forming a collaborative and supportive partnership with (head coach) Sean Payton."

Paton helped build a Broncos roster that reached the AFC Championship Game last season for the first time since 2015. Denver has posted a 44-41 record during his tenure and earned a playoff berth each of the past two seasons.

Prior to joining the Broncos in 2021, Paton had spent the previous 14 seasons as an executive with the Minnesota Vikings (2007-20). The 56-year-old was entering the final year of his contract.

In February, Payton campaigned for Paton to receive an extension.

"It's overdue," Payton said during the NFL Scouting Combine, per NFL.com's Grant Gordon. "I say that respectfully to the process, but he and I have a great working relationship. So, my job wouldn't be as fun or as exciting if he wasn't a part of it. That should be something that gets handled quickly."

Paton overcame the early misfire of trading for quarterback Russell Wilson in 2022 by adding key contributors such as Bo Nix, Pat Surtain II, and Jonathan Cooper in recent years.
