The Dallas Cowboys selected Oklahoma offensive tackle Tyler Guyton in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 29th overall.

Guyton had experience at left and right tackle in college but played primarily on the right side in his final season with the Sooners. The Texas native should be an immediate contributor for the Cowboys, who lost star left tackle Tyron Smith in free agency.

Dallas originally owned the 24th overall pick in the draft but received the No. 29 pick and a third-round selection (No. 73) in a trade with the Detroit Lions.

Guyton is the second offensive lineman Dallas has drafted in the first round in the last three years after Tyler Smith, who went 24th overall in 2022. The versatile Smith can play left tackle but stood out at left guard in 2023. Smith can presumably remain there if Guyton steps in as a left tackle.

Pre-draft profile

Guyton is a dream prospect for offensive line coaches who can develop raw talent. The Oklahoma product has to work on his technique in certain areas; most notably, inconsistent hand placement prevents him from using his length effectively. But that's teachable. Athletic abilities aren't, and Guyton offers an especially unique profile in that department. His movement skills are silky smooth, effortlessly mirroring edge rushers in pass protection and efficiently climbing to the second level in the run game. Offensive linemen of his size typically don't have this kind of fluidity. Guyton can become a high-level starter at tackle with some technical refinement.
