Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer said he apologized to the team after a video of him at a bar with a woman who isn't his wife went viral over the weekend.

"I just apologized to the team and the staff for being a distraction," Meyer said. "I explained everything that happened and owned it, just stupid, should not have myself in that kind of position."

A video showed Meyer sitting on a barstool while a woman danced in his lap. The Jaguars head coach said he did not fly back with the team following its Thursday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals and remained in Ohio to visit his grandkids. He explained he eventually ended up at a restaurant where the video was captured.

"We all went to dinner that night at a restaurant. There was a big group next to our restaurant. They wanted me to come over and take pictures, and I did. They tried to pull me out onto the dance floor, screwing around, and I should have left," Meyer added.

Meyer continued to lament the incident, telling reporters he spoke to team leaders directly following the event.

"I apologized again for being a distraction. The coach should not be a distraction," he said.

He also confirmed he spoke to owner Shad Khan, whom Meyer described as very supportive, and general manager Trent Baalke.

Meyer's stint with the Jaguars has gotten off to a rocky start on the field as well. Jacksonville has lost four straight to begin the 2021 campaign, while No. 1 pick Trevor Lawrence has also struggled, throwing five touchdowns against seven interceptions.
