Arizona Cardinals offensive tackle Jared Veldheer took a personal day away from the team to contemplate his future in the NFL after reading the results of a recent CTE study.

The study, published in the medical journal JAMA, found evidence of CTE in 99 percent of the brains of deceased former NFL players donated.

"There was some stuff going on and I was just trying to process it all," Veldheer told Bob McManaman and Andrew Vailliencourt of AZCentral.com.

Veldheer confirmed that the CTE study was the reason he needed to step away from football for the day.

"It wasn't really like, 'Oh my gosh! This is scary.' I wasn't going to … It was more complicated than that," he said. "Everyone kind of would like to know more about (CTE) just because that kind of stuff has only been brought up in the last five years or so really and there’s just a lot of stuff they need to do research-wise."

Veldheer returned to practice the following day.
