The Detroit Lions announced they signed former Green Bay Packers tight end Andrew Quarless on Monday morning.

Contract terms were not disclosed.

Quarless is suspended for the first two games of the regular season after he was arrested in Miami in July for shooting a firearm in public. He is eligible to take the field with the team during the preseason, however.

"We are aware of the upcoming NFL suspension of Andrew Quarless. We have thoroughly researched the incident that caused the suspension and have talked at length with Andrew about this," Lions general manager Bob Quinn said in a statement. "Andrew has been forthright and honest about the situation and he has gone through the process within the legal system. As an organization we are comfortable with adding Andrew to the roster and look forward to seeing him compete for the rest of the preseason."

The six-year veteran has 89 career catches for 940 yards and six touchdowns. He played in just five games last season and was placed on injured reserve in January.

The team also announced it placed wide receiver Andre Caldwell on the injured/reserve list.
