Alabama QB Buchner enters transfer portal for lacrosse
Alabama quarterback Tyler Buchner is in the transfer portal as a men's lacrosse player, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Buchner plans to explore his lacrosse options this spring but hasn't ruled out a potential return to football, a source told Thamel.
He played lacrosse in high school, according to his Alabama bio. Buchner was reportedly one of the sport's top recruits back then. The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder committed to play lacrosse at Michigan during high school before deciding to play football, notes Mike Rodak of 247Sports.
Buchner reunited with offensive coordinator Tommy Rees and transferred from Notre Dame to Alabama last April. However, the sophomore passer spent most of the 2023 season behind starter Jalen Milroe on the Crimson Tide's quarterback depth chart. Buchner started only one game and attempted 19 passes this campaign.
Buchner is the first Alabama player to enter the transfer portal after it opened Monday. The Crimson Tide beat Georgia to win the SEC on Saturday and will play Michigan next in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
