Head coach Jim Mora Jr. was so fed up with Colorado State's defensive performance against Oregon State on Saturday that he didn't wait until the end of the game to make a major change.
During the 59-26 loss, Mora stripped coordinator Tyson Summers of his defensive play-calling duties. After Summers learned of his demotion, he decided that was enough for him and left the field.
"Tyson was relieved of his play-calling duties. He left the field, and he's no longer with this football program," Mora said, according to Kevin Lytle of the Fort Collins Coloradoan.
Summers began the game on the sideline calling plays but was nowhere to be found later in the first half. Kenny McClendon took over calling the plays and will handle those duties moving forward.
"Kenny will be the primary play-caller. He was put in a very difficult situation, and he responded well, and the players responded well," Mora said. "Very first play he called as a defensive coordinator in his entire life was a sack, caused fumble. We're going to get better. We're going to get a lot better. He's a good football coach."
Mora retained Summers as defensive coordinator when he took over the program in the offseason. However, the defense has allowed 115 points across its last two games.
