Roy Williams' perfect first-round record in the NCAA Tournament is over after No. 8 North Carolina fell 85-62 to No. 9 Wisconsin on Friday to run the veteran head coach's mark to 29-1 all-time.

The Tar Heels came into the contest slightly favored but had no answer for the hot-shooting Big Ten club. Brad Davison torched North Carolina for 29 points as Wisconsin hit an incredible 13-of-27 3-pointers in the win.

Williams compiled a 14-0 record in the Round of 64 while at Kansas before ripping off 15 straight at North Carolina, bringing home three national titles in the process. The next longest streak of wins in the opening round belongs to former Tar Heels coach Dean Smith.

North Carolina falls to 31-2 all-time in the opening round, with Friday representing their first loss since 1999, which came to Weber State.

According to David Bearman of ESPN, North Carolina's loss combined with Duke and Kentucky both failing to make the tournament field means that it's the first time since 1979 that there will be a Sweet 16 without one of those three schools.
