Georgia coach Mark Fox on plane that narrowly avoided collision

Georgia coach Mark Fox had an eventful trip to Miami on Wednesday, when the plane he was travelling on narrowly avoided a collision on the runway.

"We were running full throttle, getting ready to take off," Fox told ESPN's Jeff Goodman after his Delta plane had landed. "And the pilot slammed on the brakes."

The 47-year-old was on his way to visit Miami Heat assistant coach Keith Smart, who has been battling cancer. The two coaches have been friends since the 1980s when they crossed paths in junior college.

Fox's plane was brought to a screeching halt during takeoff, as another plane appeared, and interrupted the process. While the sudden stop on the runway was certainly unexpected, Fox insisted it wasn't too much of an ordeal for those involved.

"I was fine," the seventh-year Bulldogs coach said. "It was just unusual. The pilot did a great job. Honestly, it wasn't that big of a deal."
