Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid pledged his $100,000 All-Star winnings to local homeless shelters, the team announced Saturday.

Embiid has earmarked the money for Philadelphia shelters, including Project HOME, Sunday Breakfast Mission, and Youth Service INC.

"So many have fallen on such hard times during the pandemic," Embiid said. "I felt it was important to provide more support for individuals and families struggling with homelessness and food insecurity."

The four-time All-Star's donation will provide 15,000 meals for homeless and underserved individuals and 4,000 clothing items for homeless teens and adults. Care and treatment for 1,000 homeless people receiving COVID-19 vaccines will also be made available thanks to Embiid's contribution, as will a six-week summer camp for homeless and at-risk youth and support for formerly homeless families.

"I'm continually grateful for all of the support that Philadelphia and the fans have given me, not just around All-Star but all my years in the league. I will continue to help in any way I can," Embiid said.

Embiid, starting for Team Durant in Sunday's All-Star Game in Atlanta, is enjoying the best season of his five-year career for the Eastern Conference-leading Sixers. The Cameroonian big man is averaging 30.2 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game and is in the conversation for MVP honors.

The 76ers announced they'll match Embiid's donation.
