<p>The Boston Celtics are one of the most compelling teams to watch ahead of the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline.</p><p>President of basketball operations and de facto general manager Brad Stevens is considered among the league's best front-office tacticians, and the coach turned executive has a big decision to make: go all-in, make modest upgrades to a roster that has performed beyond expectations in the absence of Jayson Tatum, or stand pat?</p><p>If the Celtics are expecting Tatum to return from an Achilles tear this season, they have one glaring area of need: center. Boston has somehow threatened the Detroit Pistons' stranglehold on the top spot in the Eastern Conference despite playing Neemias Queta and Luka Garza at the five after losing Al Horford, Luke Kornet, and Kristaps Porzingis in the offseason. Those upgrades don't have to be game-changers, and a host of decent low-risk additions should be available for little cost.</p><p>Brooklyn Nets center Day'Ron Sharpe and Indiana Pacers big Isaiah Jackson are among the players who would fit this profile. Sharpe, 24, has a team option for the 2026-27 campaign and carries a $6.25-million cap hit. He's averaging 7.8 points and 6.2 rebounds on 60.3% shooting in 42 games, all slightly above his career averages across five seasons in Brooklyn. Jackson, also 24, has two years left on a three-year, $21-million contract and is posting similar numbers as Sharpe. Neither player moves the needle, but either one could take minutes from Garza and provide depth for a playoff run. New Orleans Pelicans frontcourt duo Yves Missi and Karlo Matkovic could also generate interest as young centers on team-friendly deals.</p><p>Sharpe and Jackson wouldn't require significant returns - especially not Sharpe, given his contract and Brooklyn's apparent willingness to receive draft capital in exchange. Boston's previous acquisitions of Mike Muscala and Tillman signal a familiarity with operating in the margins by making similar moves for serviceable big men.</p><p>Boucher's expiring deal could be packaged in a trade, as could the Celtics' three second-round picks in the 2026 draft.</p><p>Stevens could also explore the buyout market as he did last season with Torrey Craig. Boston and its winning culture tend to appeal to veterans of Craig's ilk. Two squads will represent the United States, while a third will feature international players. "The way he's dealt with this at 23 years old, I tip my hat to him because he's stayed engaged."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Warriors have won 10 of their last 14 contests and are 4-1 on their current homestand, putting them two games back of the Houston Rockets for the sixth and final automatic playoff spot in the Western Conference.</p><p>Kuminga reportedly <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3456168" href="https://thescore.com/news/3456168">demanded</a> a trade Thursday, the first day he was eligible to get dealt after signing a two-year, $48.5-million deal last September. He hasn't played in the last 14 games.</p><p>"It's a very unique situation," <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/148" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/148">Steph Curry</a> told Slater. "Our job is to keep playing, keep winning. It'll resolve itself one way or the other."</p><p>Golden State's experienced players have publicly vouched for Kuminga amid his protracted impasse with the organization. That group includes <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/2809" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/2809">Jimmy Butler</a>, who's advocated for the fifth-year forward on numerous occasions.</p><p>"We love JK in this locker room," Butler said Thursday. "That's not going to change. If that happens to not be in here, we still rock with JK. That's for everybody. I wish him the best here. I wish him the best wherever."</p><p>Asked if he wanted the Warriors to deal Kuminga, Butler responded, "It ain't got nothing to do with me. I want JK to be happy. At the end of the day, that's what I want. Whatever brings him his joy and his happiness, that's what I want."</p><p>Warriors coach Steve Kerr was more tight-lipped about Kuminga's future and was seen speaking with him ahead of the victory over the Knicks. Kerr called it a "difficult situation," adding that he would keep the details of his discussion with Kuminga private.</p><p>The Sacramento Kings and Dallas Mavericks reportedly have the most interest in acquiring Kuminga. The Los Angeles Lakers apparently also have some interest in the former seventh overall pick ahead of the deadline Feb. 5.</p>

<p>Milwaukee Bucks superstar <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/30611" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/30611">Giannis Antetokounmpo</a> is adamant he has no intention of ever demanding a trade.</p><p>"There will never be a chance, and there will never be a moment that I will come out and say 'I want a trade,'" Antetokounmpo told <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6953526/2026/01/08/giannis-antetokounmpo-bucks-trade-nba-deadline-interview/?source=emp_shared_article">The Athletic's Sam Amick</a> following Wednesday's 120-113 loss to the Golden State Warriors.</p><p>"I am not (going anywhere). I am invested in this team," Antetokounmpo added. "I want to turn this team around. I want to play good basketball. I want to be healthy. I want to help my teammates."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Antetokounmpo also emphasized his long-term commitment to the Bucks, saying, "My plan is to be here for the rest of my career. If they don't want me …" When asked about the leverage he holds, the two-time MVP responded, "I'm not the one in charge. I am an employee."</p><p>The 31-year-old has been the subject of rumors since last summer, following reports that Milwaukee and the New York Knicks <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3363043" href="https://thescore.com/news/3363043">discussed</a> a potential trade for the nine-time All-Star.</p><p>Additional <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3417789" href="https://thescore.com/news/3417789">reports</a> in early December claimed Antetokounmpo and the Bucks had met to assess whether his future lies with the club or elsewhere.</p><p>Although Antetokounmpo <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3431198" href="https://thescore.com/news/3431198">denied</a> speaking with the organization, he acknowledged that his agent may have discussed his future with Milwaukee's brass.</p><p>"If my agent is talking to the Bucks about (my future), he is his own person," Antetokounmpo said in December. "At the end of the day, I don't work for my agent. My agent works for me."</p><p>Antetokounmpo is in the second year of a three-year, $175-million contract that includes a $62.8-million player option for 2027-28.</p><p>Bucks head coach Doc Rivers also dismissed the rumors Wednesday.</p><p>"If you're around the team every day, and you saw those reports, you would laugh," Rivers told Amick. "He's given no indication (that he wants out). That doesn't mean that he doesn't change his mind, or whatever."</p><p>Rivers added: "But Giannis loves being in Milwaukee. He loves playing for this team. If something happens someday, where he changes his mind, I’d actually be surprised. But that can happen."</p><p>The veteran coach admitted that the ongoing speculation has taken a toll, noting that, "Giannis, two or three times now, has said, 'Guys, I'm here. I love it.'"</p><p>The 16-21 Bucks sit 11th in the Eastern Conference, one game back of the Chicago Bulls for the final play-in spot. They've won four of six games ahead of Friday's much-anticipated clash with the Los Angeles Lakers.</p><p>"I wanna win games. The last six games we've played, we're 4-2. We have a lot of games in front of us," Antetokounmpo said. "I'm locked the f--k in. I'm locked in."</p>

It'll be difficult for Queen to remove the stink of the decision to trade the draft rights to Asa Newell and a future first-round draft pick to Atlanta, though it's hardly his fault the Pelicans valued him so highly. While offseason wrist surgery didn't help Queen's case, he returned earlier than anticipated.</p><p>An old-school, slick-passing center in the mold of Zach Randolph, Queen has displayed an intriguing blend of strength and finesse while earning a starting role for New Orleans. He leads all rookies in rebounds and blocks and has displayed some passing chops and advanced footwork in the post. He's averaging 15.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.4 blocks in his last 12 outings. Through 35 games, he's made 127 shots from deep, which is on track to shatter Keegan Murray's rookie record (206). He's also one of three players alongside Maxey and Jamal Murray to make 115 or more threes while shooting better than 40% from behind the arc. Knueppel is already one of the league's elite 3-point marksmen.</p><p>However, there's more to his arsenal. He leads all rookies in scoring and is on pace to become the first rookie since Hall of Famer Mitch Richmond (1989) to average 19 or more points while shooting 46% or better. Knueppel also thrives at making lightning-quick decisions, which benefits a Charlotte Hornets offense that's attempting to exploit mismatches on dribble penetrations and drive-and-kick scenarios. Despite an up-and-down start - due in part to the Dallas Mavericks' chaotic environment and a slew of injuries to key contributors - Flagg has found his footing at the pro level. He's gotten better each month, going from 17.8 points per game on 47.7% shooting in November to 23.5 points on 51.6% shooting in December. He also shot 33.3% from deep last month compared to 25.3% in October and November.</p><p>In his one year at Duke, Flagg overcame a slow start, and this season is no different. After initiating much of the Mavs' offense during the early stages, he's since benefited from playing alongside two guards. This has reduced Flagg's playmaking responsibilities and thrust him into more off-ball actions, allowing him to attack with greater ease and contribute more in transition.
