It's been two years since Jimmer Fredette last played in the NBA.

Since then, the 6-foot-2 guard has plied his trade in the Chinese Basketball Association, where he's averaging 37.4 points per contest for the Shanghai Sharks and won the league's International MVP award last year.

But while Fredette is enjoying plenty of success overseas, the former BYU star has some unfinished business in the NBA.

"After this season is over, I want another NBA chance. This time, I'll succeed," Fredette told Bryan Kalbrosky of HoopsHype. "I feel really good about how I am playing. I know that if I get a chance, I will take advantage of it and be successful and help a team win.

"I'm excited for what the future holds. I'm going to finish my contract in China ... but after that, I will see what is out there and try to be on a roster for the NBA postseason."

Reflecting on his short NBA career, Fredette felt he was "more passive" than he should've been at times. He believes if he gets another shot he'll be more assertive on a nightly basis.

"I can be a great teammate, bringing it every single night. I know what it takes to win and I've helped lead teams to winning cultures," he said. "I want to be a part of a winning culture. I'm going to help the young guys get better. I can be a great fit (in) the locker room and on the floor at a high level."

The 29-year-old maintains his time away from the NBA was "the best thing that could have happened." It's allowed Fredette to mature as a person and see where he, a ball-dominant player, could improve - especially on defense and off-ball offense.

"I've worked extremely hard to get a lot better off the ball," he said. "Being able to catch the ball and shoot, I've also worked on my release to make it as quick as possible. As soon as I catch the ball, it's going up.

"I've improved my footwork - a lot of it is doing the work before you catch the ball. I sprint to get off screens so my defender can't catch me, which makes me so much better at shooting off the different types of screens."

Fredette was a first-round pick of the Milwaukee Bucks in 2011.
