The Los Angeles Lakers are bringing an old friend back into the fold. The team announced the hiring of former player, coach, and front-office member Kurt Rambis as a senior basketball advisor to team president Magic Johnson.

Rambis was a key role player on the "Showtime Lakers," helping the team capture titles in 1982, 1985, 1987, and 1988. He played for the franchise for parts of nine seasons, averaging 4.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Upon his retirement as a player, Rambis would contribute to the franchise in various capacities from 1994-2009 and from 2013-14, serving as an assistant coach and a front-office member.

In parts of four seasons as an NBA head coach - including a 45-game stretch with the Lakers during the 1998-99 season - Rambis has amassed a 65-164 regular-season record and a 3-5 record in the playoffs.
