The Los Angeles Lakers are signing center Kevon Looney to a one-year, $3.9-million deal, his agent told ESPN's Shams Charania.

Looney spent the previous campaign with the New Orleans Pelicans, averaging 2.8 points and 5.6 rebounds in 14.7 minutes across 21 appearances.

The 30-year-old was among the most experienced big men still available on the market.

Looney is expected to back up newly acquired center Walker Kessler.

The Lakers were in need of more depth at the five after recently trading Deandre Ayton to the Washington Wizards.

Looney spent the first decade of his career with the Golden State Warriors after being selected 30th overall in the 2015 draft. He played a supporting role on two of the club's championship squads.
