Someone shelled out a lot of money for a mouthguard supposedly worn by Stephen Curry, but it might not have even belonged to the Golden State Warriors star.

Curry casted some doubt on the authenticity of the mouthguard - which sold for $3,190 in an online auction last month - during a Q&A session at a private fundraiser.

"Whoever found it, sold it on eBay for an absurd amount of money," Curry said, according to Ananth Pandian of CBS Sports. "For some silicon. I don't understand why."

The auctioned mouthguard was supposedly found by a fan during a Warriors road game back in December, though Curry isn't sure how they got ahold of it.

"I don't know where that certificate of authenticity came from," he joked.
