The Toronto Blue Jays are actively engaged in discussions with the Texas Rangers regarding left-hander Mike Minor, sources told Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
Minor would be another rental pitching acquisition for Toronto, which acquired right-hander Taijuan Walker from Seattle earlier this week. Minor is in the final year of his deal and is owed around $2 million over the rest of this season.
The 32-year-old's contract contains a limited no-trade clause, allowing him to block trades to 10 clubs, according to Cot's Contracts. However, the clause was only in effect for the first two years of his deal, and Minor cannot block any trades this season, according to Grant.
Minor produced a solid comeback season for the Rangers in 2019, earning an All-Star berth and down-ballot Cy Young votes after posting a 3.59 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 200 strikeouts over 32 starts. But Minor's regressed this year; he's 0-5 with a 5.60 ERA, 4.84 FIP, and 1.36 WHIP through seven starts. He's averaging 8.9 strikeouts per nine innings, a slight uptick from last year.
The Rangers are also discussing trades for veteran starter Lance Lynn after falling out of the playoff race. Lynn was linked to the Blue Jays this week.
