Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Addison Barger will undergo season-ending elbow surgery, manager John Schneider said Friday, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.
Schneider added the team still doesn't know whether Barger will undergo Tommy John surgery or an internal brace procedure.
"It's tough to lose the whole year of at-bats, reps, and performance. We were counting on him to be a big part of our team. You can see how much we miss him, for sure," Schneider said, according to MLB.com's Keegan Matheson.
Barger will miss nine months if he has Tommy John and five if he opts for the internal brace, according to Hazel Mae of Sportsnet.
The 26-year-old suited up in only nine games in 2026 after helping the Blue Jays reach the World Series last year. He landed on the injured list on May 11 with an elbow issue following the hardest throw of his career on May 9 against the Los Angeles Angels, which marked his first contest back after missing more than a month with ankle injuries.
