Baltimore Orioles skipper Buck Showalter has been at it a long time.
The 60-year-old enters his 19th season as a Major League Baseball manager and eighth with the Orioles. He's presided over more than 2,700 games and won more than half of them, but Showalter acknowledges that his career is moving towards the finish line.
"I can see the end of the tunnel," Showalter told Bob Klapisch of USA TODAY Sports.
Despite residing in arguably the toughest division in baseball, the Orioles have reached the playoffs three times in the past five seasons - more than any other team in the American League East. However, Baltimore has failed to reach the World Series in any of those trips, falling in the Division Series, League Championship Series, and wild-card game. Showalter has never reached the World Series in his 19 seasons as a manager.
Both Showalter and general manager Dan Duquette agreed to extensions in 2013 that will keep them under contract through the 2018 season.
