The young Rickie Fowler took the outright lead at the British Open after a birdie on 12, but wouldn't keep it for long as Sergio Garcia birdied 13.
A 32 on the front nine catapulted Fowler into a share of the lead at 3-under with 11 other golfers in the field before nailing his approach on 12 to set himself up for a tap-in birdie.
Fowler is the only player to finish in the top-5 of both majors this season (fifth at the Masters and second at the US Open).
Rory McIlroy (-4) and Hideki Matsuyama carded front nine 32's while Jordan Spieth made par on the front nine with a 35.
Brooks Koepka and Edoardo Molinari finished their rounds carding 68's joining the lead at 4-under.
