Tiger Woods ended his Memorial Tournament in style, firing a 5-under 67 on Sunday to climb up the leaderboard in his final round before the U.S. Open.
"I played really well today," the Masters champ said with a smile after his round. "It was fun. I hit the ball so crisp and so solid. I made some nice putts on the front nine and I had things rolling a little bit."
A day after admitting he was "not going to win the golf tournament," Tiger came out firing in Round 4 and made winning seem like a possibility. He recorded two birdies in his first three holes and added three more circles to his scorecard before making the turn at 5-under.
Back-to-back birdies on Nos. 11 and 12 then put the five-time Memorial champion within five shots of leader Martin Kaymer, but it was simply too little, too late for Woods.
In the end, Tiger dropped two shots on his last six holes to finish at 9-under for the tournament.
"I wanted to have something positive going into the (U.S.) Open and I kind of snuck up there (with) a nice little top 10, possibly," he added.
Woods will now head to the U.S. Open on the positive note he hoped for. He hit 14 of 18 greens in regulation on Sunday along with the first 12 fairways of the day for his best round of the week at Muirfield Village.
