Here are the goaltender value rankings for Tuesday, January 5's eight-game slate:
Top Options
| NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
|---|---|---|
| Roberto Luongo (FLA) | at BUF | 9 |
| Antti Niemi (DAL) | at NYR | 8 |
Luongo is pricey but the 36-year-old netminder has been on a roll, winning seven-straight games and putting up a 1.79 GAA and .391 save percentage in his last 10 games. He's also one of the rare goalies whose stats aren't significantly worse on the road; in fact, his numbers across the board have been slightly better on road. The Sabres are in trouble.
Niemi is a cheaper option, and while the Rangers possess the league's fifth-best offense, the Stars easily possess the best offense, averaging 3.49 goals per game; with Henrik Lundqvist mired in a slump, Niemi has a chance to steal a win in Manhattan.
Best of the Rest
| NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
|---|---|---|
| Connor Hellebuyck (WPG) | at NAS | 7 |
| Marc-Andre Fleury (PIT) | vs. CHI | 7 |
| Steve Mason (PHI) | vs. MTL | 6 |
| Pekka Rinne (NAS) | vs. WPG | 6 |
| Karri Ramo (CGY) | vs. TB | 6 |
| Ben Bishop (TB) | at CGY | 5 |
| Devan Dubnyk (MIN) | at CLB | 5 |
| Corey Crawford (CHI) | at PIT | 4 |
Hellebuyck is the best of the cheaper goalies on the slate and will take on a Predators team that has seen their offense wane. Fleury looked great in his 38-save win over the Islanders having not played since mid-December; DFS players can trust in Fleury once again but should remain skeptical of his goal support.
Bishop is another good goalie that receives little support from his skaters; if he doesn't shut the door on the Flames' scorers, he likely won't get the goals needed for a win.
Crawford gets the benefit of a perennially-strong offense but has been awful on the road all season. In 13 road games, Crawford has gone 7-5-1 but has allowed 3.23 goals per game. He's simply too expensive to trust on the road against a veteran Penguins team.
Nothing to See Here
| NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
|---|---|---|
| Chad Johnson (BUF) | vs. FLA | 4 |
| Henrik Lundqvist (NYR) | vs. DAL | 3 |
| Tuukka Rask (BOS) | vs. WAS | 2 |
| Braden Holtby (WAS) | at BOS | 2 |
| Anton Forsberg (CLB) | vs. MIN | 1 |
| Ben Scrivens (MTL) | at PHI | 1 |
Rask and Holtby have both been great but it will be impossible to predict the winner when they face each other. No matter who wins, it likely won't be low-scoring affair, as Washington and Boston possess the NHL's second- and third-best offenses.
