The Detroit Red Wings have re-assigned defenseman Alexey Marchenko to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.
The move comes after Marchenko was activated off the injured reserve. The 23-year-old suffered an oblique strain and has been out of the lineup since February 28.
Detroit's acquisition of veteran defender Marek Zidlicky at the trade deadline made it pretty clear that the young defenseman would not be sticking around with the big club.
Marchenko has one goal and two points in 12 games.
