Leave it to Strombo.

Wayne Gretzky confirmed a previously denied report in conversation with Hockey Night in Canada host George Stroumboulopoulos, admitting that he did talk to the Toronto Maple Leafs about joining their front office.

"We chatted, you know, I can finally can admit we chatted," Gretzky confirmed in the interview. "It just wasn't the right thing for them, and for me."

Of course, Brendan Shanahan was eventually lured from the NHL offices to front the organization as team president instead - a decision Gretzky fully endorses.

"Shanahan is a wonderful man and a good person. He's going to do a wonderful job."
