Report: Ducks will not extend qualifying offer to Mathieu Perreault
The Anaheim Ducks will not extend pending restricted free agent Mathieu Perreault a qualifying offer, according to a report from TSN's Bob McKenzie.
Perreault is undersized, but managed 43 points in 69 games and was productive in a supporting role for the Ducks. Obviously with the additions of centermen Ryan Kesler and Nate Thompson in trades, the Ducks didn't see a place for Perreault at the $1.1-million figure that the club would've owed the skilled centerman if he'd accepted his qualifying offer.
An alternative explanation for the Ducks non-tendering Perrault, proposed on Reddit, is that the Ducks weren't willing to risk Perrault winning a substantial award at player elected arbitration.
Perreault can now hit the unrestricted free agent market, although McKenzie notes that the Ducks have offered him a standard player contract at a lower dollar figure.
