Calgary Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau won't be ready for training camp later in September as he continues to recover from hip resurfacing surgery, general manager Craig Conroy told Sportsnet's Eric Francis.
Conroy said earlier this week that Huberdeau had a setback in his recovery but has since clarified that isn't necessarily the case.
"It was a poor choice of words on my part," Conroy said of his prior remarks. "It's not that there was a setback. It was more the hope in me that he was going to be ready for camp. What I meant was, it was a setback that he won't probably be ready for the first day of camp. That's where I made my mistake."
Huberdeau underwent season-ending surgery in February, and the expected recovery timeline was seven-to-nine months. Conroy isn't worried about the possibility of the forward being unable to suit up in 2026-27.
"We're gonna see how this kind of goes through camp and see how he's doing, and when he's 100%, he'll be ready to go," Conroy said. "He looked good today and he's on the right path. We're probably going to have him just skate with the coaches on his own to start, just to be careful."
Huberdeau registered 25 points in 50 games last season before being shut down. He's entering his fifth season with the Flames after being acquired from the Florida Panthers in a trade that sent Matthew Tkachuk the other way.
