With control of Hockey Night in Canada shifting from CBC to Rogers after this season, it has been an interesting week for Hockey Night in Canada (to say the least). So it makes a lot of sense that their opening montage on Saturday night looked into the past.
The montage is set to Pavarotti's beautiful Nessun Dorma and represents perhaps Tim Thompson's finest work, which is high-praise indeed. It expertly weaves the past and the present, and looks back at sixty years of television and hockey history through the lens of the "forever rivalry" between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens.
