The Minnesota Wild could make a run at Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin if the 40-year-old becomes available.
"I know (Bill) Guerin is interested, but only if the price is right and Malkin is ready to move at that point," TSN's Darren Dreger said during Thursday's edition of "Insider Trading."
Malkin has to submit a three-team trade list in January, Dreger reports.
Wild general manager Guerin suited up alongside Malkin for the Penguins during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. Malkin has spent his entire NHL career with Pittsburgh and is in the midst of his 21st campaign.
The three-time Stanley Cup winner remains productive: He's got 11 points in 13 contests while averaging over 17 minutes per game.
He's earning $5.5 million this season, which is the final year of his contract before he's set to become an unrestricted free agent.
