The Vancouver Canucks requested permission from the Toronto Maple Leafs to speak with executive Shane Doan, sources told Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Doan's potential role in Vancouver's front office is unclear, Friedman adds. He's been a special adviser to the general manager in Toronto since 2023, but the team fired Brad Treliving as GM in March.

The Canucks recently dismissed GM Patrik Allvin and are reportedly interviewing former Buffalo Sabres architect Kevyn Adams for the position. Vancouver is coming off a last-place finish.

Doan worked as the Arizona Coyotes' chief hockey development officer before being hired by the Maple Leafs. He joined the Coyotes' front office after a 21-year playing career with the organization.
