The Columbus Blue Jackets and restricted free agent Jet Greaves are roughly $5 million apart in their arbitration filings, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports.
The team is aiming to sign the netminder for $2.8 million per season, while Greaves is asking for $7.5 million, per Friedman. Arbitration filings are often resolved with a number near the middle of the two asks.
Greaves arbitration date is set for July 23, and a ruling is due within 48 hours of the meeting. The two sides can agree to a contract at any point before the arbitration hearing.
If the contract is agreed upon through arbitration, it can only be a maximum of two years in length. A two-year deal would walk Greaves into unrestricted free agency in 2028.
The Blue Jackets have over $23 million in cap space, per PuckPedia. They also need to sign RFAs Adam Fantilli and Cole Sillinger.
Greaves emerged as Columbus' No. 1 netminder last season, posting a .908 save percentage in 55 appearances while ranking eighth among all goalies 31.71 goals saved above expected, according to Evolving Hockey.
He also represented Canada at the World Championship this spring, registering a .920 clip in eight games.
Greaves signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Blue Jackets in 2022 after going undrafted. He's made 76 appearances with the club in his career.
