The outing marked Crosby's fifth appearance since returning from a knee injury he sustained while representing Canada at the Olympics. The ailment caused him to miss the final two games of the tournament and 11 NHL contests afterward.
Crosby has notched five points in four-plus appearances since returning. He's totaled 64 points in 60 games this season.
The Penguins ultimately won the contest 4-3 in a shootout, earning a crucial two points in their pursuit of a playoff spot. With the victory, they jumped to second in the Metropolitan Division, but Pittsburgh is only one point clear of both the Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Islanders.
