Jack Hughes out with hand injury reportedly sustained at team dinner
New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes is sidelined with a hand injury he sustained off the ice, the team announced Friday.
Hughes slipped and cut his hand in a fluke accident during a team dinner Thursday, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
The 24-year-old isn't expected to play Saturday against the Washington Capitals, reports Friedman, who adds there's no clear timetable for his return at this point.
Hughes has 10 goals and 10 assists over 17 games this season. However, the two-time All-Star has struggled to stay on the ice over his seven-year career due to multiple injuries, logging more than 70 contests in a single campaign just once.
The former No. 1 pick should be a lock to be on Team USA for the 2026 Winter Olympics in February if he's healthy.
