The St. Louis Blues are "open for business" on the trade market as they sit 15th in the Western Conference early in the 2025-26 season, NHL insider Frank Seravalli reported on Thursday's Amazon Prime broadcast.

The Blues' rough start to the campaign prompted head coach Jim Montgomery to send a message to his group Thursday by scratching Jordan Kyrou, one of the club's highest-paid players. Though St. Louis responded with a 3-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres, the club owns a 5-8-2 record on the year and a minus-18 goal differential.

Meanwhile, captain Brayden Schenn is generating interest in the trade market, Seravalli noted. Schenn was involved in rumors prior to last season's trade deadline, but a deal could be easier to facilitate now that his no-move clause has shrunk to a 15-team no-trade list.

The Blues reportedly sought a "mammoth" return for Schenn last campaign before ultimately sneaking into the playoffs as the second wild-card seed.

Schenn, 34, is under contract through 2028 at a cap hit of $6.5 million. He's managed six points in 15 games this season, but would be a serviceable addition for contenders looking to bolster their center depth. An eight-time 20-goal-scorer, Schenn helped the Blues win the Stanley Cup in 2019.

Blues general manager Doug Armstrong will have a full plate if he orchestrates any fire sale, as he's also in the process of selecting Canada's Olympic roster for February.
