Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev was stretchered off the ice during the third period of Saturday's contest against the Philadelphia Flyers after a collision with Matvei Michkov.

Tanev returned to action Saturday after a four-game absence due to an upper-body injury that many suspected to be a concussion.

He was taken to a hospital to undergo testing and may fly home with the team, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube said, per Sportsnet's Luke Fox. Toronto returns to action Monday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Michkov was initially assessed a major penalty but it was reduced to a minor upon review.

Tanev is Toronto's top shutdown defenseman. He's notched one assist in seven games this season while averaging just under 18 minutes per night.

The Maple Leafs beat the Flyers 5-2.
