Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield said he's set the start of training camp in late July as his deadline for a new contract extension.

"Not anywhere close to what we were thinking," Mayfield said Friday when asked about the state of negotiations, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. "Would love to be here long term and as of right now, that's not exactly the case.

"But I'm under contract for 2026. The guys in that locker room, the staff know that I'm still gonna be me. I'm still going to do everything I can to help this team win a Super Bowl. To me that's the priority. Everything else will take care of itself."

Mayfield is heading into the final season of a three-year, $100-million deal he signed in March 2024.

The 31-year-old threw for 3,693 yards with 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions over 17 games in 2025, but the Bucs missed the playoffs with an 8-9 record. He posted career highs of 4,500 passing yards and 41 touchdowns in 2024.

Mayfield added that he was displeased that No. 1 receiver Mike Evans left to join the San Francisco 49ers in free agency.

"No way to sugarcoat it," Mayfield said, according to Greg Auman of Fox Sports. "It was disappointing, to not have him back."

Mayfield would be one of the best players available on the open market in 2027 if he doesn't land an extension.
