Report: Chiefs' Minshew dodged ACL tear
Tests revealed that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Gardner Minshew did not tear his ACL on Sunday as initially feared, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Minshew instead suffered a non-displaced tibial plateau fracture, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
However, the Chiefs still placed Minshew on injured reserve Monday, ending his season.
The veteran was initially believed to have torn his ACL in Sunday's 26-9 loss to the Tennessee Titans. He headed to the locker room in the second quarter and didn't return to the contest.
The Chiefs lost Patrick Mahomes to a torn ACL and LCL last week, which led to Minshew's start.
Minshew finished Sunday's contest completing 3 of 8 passes for 15 yards. Chris Oladokun, a 2022 seventh-round pick out of South Dakota State, finished the game at quarterback for Kansas City.
The Chiefs promoted Oladokun to the active roster Saturday. His only prior NFL game action came in Week 18 of last season, when he had just one carry for five yards in a 38-0 loss to the Denver Broncos.
The Chiefs also signed quarterback Shane Buechele off the Buffalo Bills' practice squad Monday.
Kansas City is heading into a short week, as it faces the Denver Broncos on Christmas Day.
