Shedeur unlikely to play 2nd preseason game due to oblique strain
Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders isn't expected to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the team announced Wednesday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Sanders left Wednesday's practice early after suffering an oblique injury during drills and didn't play the rest of the session.
"Further medical testing and examination on Shedeur Sanders revealed an oblique strain," the Browns said. "He is considered day-to-day, won't practice tomorrow, and is unlikely to play in the game on Saturday."
Sanders, a fifth-round pick this year, stood out in his preseason debut last week, completing 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards with two first-half touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers.
The Browns selected the Colorado product 144th overall in April, following one of the most controversial falls in NFL draft history.
The 23-year-old is one of four passers who top Cleveland's QB depth chart this year, along with Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and rookie Dillon Gabriel.
Gabriel was sidelined last week against the Panthers due to a hamstring injury, but the third-round pick has practiced lately and is in line to start versus the Eagles, according to Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal.
