The Philadelphia Eagles signed star defensive tackle Jalen Carter to a record-breaking four-year, $152-million contract extension that can reach a maximum value of $160 million, his agents told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The deal, which includes $106 million guaranteed and runs through 2031, makes Carter the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history.
Carter's average value of $38 million per year exceeds the previous benchmark established by Jeffery Simmons' deal with the Tennessee Titans, which averages $35.276 million, per Over the Cap.
The Eagles now have both of their defensive tackles locked down for the foreseeable future after signing Jordan Davis to a three-year extension worth $78 million in March.
Carter, the ninth overall pick in the 2023 draft, has been an irreplaceable piece of Philadelphia's defensive front. The 25-year-old, who's coming off of back-to-back Pro Bowl campaigns, has recorded 13.5 sacks and 25 tackles for a loss over his three-year career.
