Giants' Carter to wear No. 51 after missing out on retired numbers
Abdul Carter has finally found his NFL jersey number.
The New York Giants rookie plans to wear No. 51 after multiple attempts to wear jersey numbers retired by the franchise, the team announced.
The first-year edge rusher, whom New York took at No. 3 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, originally wanted to don No. 56, but Giants legend Lawrence Taylor declined to unretire that number.
Carter then focused on No. 11, the retired number of former New York quarterback Phil Simms. Though Simms said he'd allow Carter to wear his jersey number, he later revealed that his family outvoted him on letting the rookie take No. 11.
Carter wore No. 11 during his college career at Penn State and No. 22 at La Salle College High School in Pennsylvania.
The 21-year-old was one of two Giants first-round selections in 2025, along with quarterback Jaxson Dart, who will wear No. 6.
The Giants' rookie minicamp takes place May 9-10. NFL jersey numbers are often subject to change before the start of the regular season.
