Rodgers: Adams is great player but a trade is 'out of my hands'

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - NOVEMBER 12: Quarterback Aaron Rodgers #8 of the New York Jets talks with wide receiver Davante Adams #17 of the Las Vegas Raiders after the Raiders defeated the Jets to win the game at Allegiant Stadium on November 12, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Aaron Rodgers was careful to not violate any tampering rules when asked about the possibility of reuniting with former teammate and Las Vegas Raiders receiver Davante Adams.

"I don't know how much I can say about him, but I still have a close friendship with him," Rodgers said Friday, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini. "We spend time in the offseason together. He's a great guy and a great player, and the rest of that is out of my hands."

Adams apparently told the Raiders he prefers to be traded. Teams in the market are reportedly convinced Adams is attempting to engineer a move to the Jets. The 31-year-old wideout is rumored to have New York and New Orleans near the top of his wish list due to his familiarity with their quarterbacks.

Rodgers and Adams spent eight years together with the Green Bay Packers to much success. Adams caught 669 passes for 8,121 yards and 73 touchdowns across those eight seasons, including a career-high 1,553 yards in 2021, his final year in Green Bay, and a league-leading 18 touchdown grabs in 2020. Both those seasons lined up with back-to-back MVP campaigns for Rodgers.

Garrett Wilson leads all Jets receivers this season with 20 catches, while his 191 yards rank second. However, Wilson said he'd also be in favor of adding Adams if possible.

"That'd be cool," Wilson said Friday, according to The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt. "If someone can help us win, let's do it."

Las Vegas reportedly wants a second-round pick and additional compensation for the six-time Pro Bowl wideout, who's currently sidelined with a hamstring injury. Adams is signed to a five-year deal worth $140 million that runs through 2026.

The Jets travelled overseas to London in preparation to face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
