49ers sign veteran DB Logan Ryan
The San Francisco 49ers signed veteran defensive back Logan Ryan, the team announced Tuesday.
Ryan has yet to play this season. He spent the 2022 campaign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, racking up 37 tackles, three pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one interception in nine appearances.
The 32-year-old adds plenty of experience and versatility to a 49ers secondary that lacks depth at safety. A third-round pick in 2013, Ryan began his NFL journey playing mostly at cornerback but transitioned to safety later in his career.
The Rutgers product played his first four pro seasons in New England and helped the Patriots win two Super Bowl titles. Ryan also spent time with the Tennessee Titans (2017-19) and New York Giants (2020-21).
The 49ers' safety depth chart also features Tashaun Gipson and third-round rookie Ji'Ayir Brown. San Francisco's defense ranks second in points allowed per game this season.
